Coffee, matcha and fresh food on Bedford Street

About Amelia

Amelia is a cafe on Bedford Street serving artisanal coffee alongside fresh, organic food. It sits on the quieter western edge of Covent Garden, between the Strand and the market, and it is the Covent Garden branch of a small London group that also has cafes on Monmouth Street in Seven Dials and on Charing Cross Road in Soho.

The menu runs from coffee, tea and matcha to fresh juices, smoothies and hot chocolate, with patisseries, cakes, crepes and avocado toast made fresh through the day. The house coffee is Amelia's own: the No.1 house roast blends Brazilian Arabica with Vietnamese Robusta for notes of dark chocolate and roasted hazelnut, and there is a Brazilian Arabica decaf. The matcha is Amatsu, a range of ceremonial blends. Both are sold to take home, along with reusable cups, and the online shop offers free UK shipping on orders over £20 and on all subscriptions.

A coffee and matcha cafe in Covent Garden

Bedford Street runs between the Strand and Covent Garden proper, a calmer stretch away from the busiest crowds. A table here gives you a base on the edge of the action, close enough to reach the piazza in a few minutes but a step removed from it. The style is bright and contemporary, in keeping with the fresh, produce-led approach to the food, and the matcha drinks are as much of a draw as the coffee.

What to expect on a visit

Amelia opens from 8.30am to 6.30pm on weekdays and from 9am to 7.30pm at weekends, so it works for an early coffee, a light lunch or an afternoon treat. Charing Cross and Covent Garden stations are both a short walk. For a brunch-led alternative nearby, see Abuelo on Southampton Street, or browse every cafe in Covent Garden in the directory.

We came here for brunch and really enjoyed our food. There was a selection of omelettes, crepes and tasty sandwiches (made with foccacia and toasted if you want). They had decent looking cake options but we didn't try these. The coffee was of a good standard and service was quick. A nice relaxed environment for a decent breakfast near Covent Garden.

Pretty coffee shop in the heart of Covent Garden. I tried here the best raspberry tart in my life. Not many spaces inside the shop, but if you can get one, enjoy lovely desserts and coffee. It's quite expensive place, but worth it, as food are really very tasty. My recommendation for everyone who loves desserts as I do😁😄

Stopped by Amelia Coffee in Covent Garden and had a lovely break with a latte and a delicious carrot cake. Nice atmosphere, friendly vibe, and a really cool place to relax while exploring London. Definitely worth a stop if you’re in the area!
