Audrey Green

Brunch and coffee at the National Portrait Gallery

About Audrey Green

Audrey Green is the cafe inside the National Portrait Gallery on St Martin's Place, beside Trafalgar Square on the western edge of Covent Garden. It has its own street-level entrance and can be visited without a gallery ticket, pairing cafe service with one of London's major cultural addresses.

The cafe is part of the Daisy Green Collection, the Australian-inspired group behind several London brunch spots, and the name and concept take their cue from Breakfast at Tiffany's. The counter serves speciality coffee and tea alongside fresh sandwiches, cakes and a selection of Australian-inspired sweet treats, with juices and salads also on offer. Service is walk-ins only, so there are no reservations, which keeps it easy to drop into.

A cafe at the National Portrait Gallery

The space is light-filled, open and contemporary, designed to feel calm and unhurried compared with the busier cafes nearby. Its position within the gallery makes it a natural pause before or after a visit, and the separate entrance means it works just as well as a stand-alone cafe near Trafalgar Square for a coffee, a light lunch or an afternoon treat.

What to expect on a visit

Audrey Green opens from 9.30am on weekdays and 10am at weekends, closing at 5.30pm most days but staying open until 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays, which makes it a useful evening option at the end of the week. Charing Cross and Leicester Square stations are both a couple of minutes away. For an early-opening coffee stop nearby, see Black Sheep Coffee on the Strand, or browse all Covent Garden cafes in the directory.
