Live life in full flavour

About Banana Tree

Banana Tree is a Southeast Asian restaurant on Wellington Street, between the Strand and the Covent Garden Piazza, on the route most theatre-goers take to the Royal Opera House and the Lyceum. It is a casual, lively room set up for a meal after a day around Seven Dials, a show at the theatre or shopping along Long Acre, rather than a quiet dinner.

The menu pulls together dishes from across the region: smoky satay chicken, tangy Vietnamese salads, warming Malaysian curries and zingy Thai stir-fries, with pad thai, Thai green curry, steamed dumplings and Korean BBQ wings alongside. The kitchen describes its food as punchy and memorable, from fiery to fragrant, noodle-packed to dumpling-stacked. Banana Tree is a UK group, and the Covent Garden branch follows the same menu and offers as the rest.

Pan-Asian restaurant in Covent Garden with bottomless bowls

The bottomless bowls deal gives 90 minutes of unlimited bowls from a set price per person when pre-booked, and a bottomless brunch adds a sociable, value-led option at weekends. Club members get Wednesday noodle nights from 4pm at a fixed price per dish, and a kids eat free promotion runs through the school summer holidays with a free children's main, drink and dessert per adult main. Set menus make it a practical pre-theatre choice.

What to expect on a visit

Expect bold flavours, a buzzy atmosphere and a menu wide enough for a group to eat across several regional styles at once. There is outdoor seating on Wellington Street, baby changing facilities, takeaway and click and collect, and delivery through Just Eat, Deliveroo and Uber Eats. Doors open at midday daily, closing between 10pm and 11pm depending on the day. Covent Garden and Charing Cross stations are both a short walk. We had a lovely lunch at Banana Tree before heading to the theatre. The food was delicious, fresh, and arrived promptly, making it the perfect pre-show meal. A special thank you to Raul, who looked after us brilliantly. He was friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was just right without being intrusive. Excellent service really made the experience even better. We'll definitely be back next time we're in Covent Garden! 😊

Absolutely amazing experience at Banana tree. Me and 2 friends had traveled from Bournemouth to London my Birthday and I had researched good places for GF food options as I’m coeliac! This place is so cute, the service was outstanding from all staff, manager Ahmed reassured me on everything I could eat and made sure we were well looked after. Food was absolutely incredible, and the cocktails are fantastic!!! Definitely a place to try!

Really enjoyed this restaurant! It was my first visit, and I opted for the bottomless bowls. The staff were incredibly welcoming and friendly, which made the experience even better. The curries were absolutely delicious, and I’ll definitely be returning. Highly recommended!
