Chill Since '93

LA comfort food on New Row

About Chill Since '93

Chill Since '93 is a casual pizza and sandwich spot on New Row, the narrow pedestrian lane that runs from St Martin's Lane towards Bedfordbury just south of the Covent Garden piazza. It is the London outpost of a small group with sister sites in Los Angeles and Lugano, and it brings a relaxed Californian comfort-food menu to a street better known for small independent restaurants and takeaways.

The menu is organised into three sections, pizza, sandwiches and desserts, with coffee available alongside. Food is available to eat in, for pickup and through the major delivery apps, and the group also takes catering orders by phone and email. The name is a nod to the founding year of the original concept, and the laid-back tone carries through from the branding to the service.

Pizza and sandwiches in Covent Garden across the day

Having pizza and sandwiches in Covent Garden under one roof, plus coffee and something sweet, makes the New Row branch a flexible stop: a quick lunch between shops, an afternoon treat, or an early dinner before a show at the Coliseum or the Duke of York's, both a minute or two away on St Martin's Lane. Doors open at half past eleven daily and stay open until nine on weeknights and Sundays, and until ten on Friday and Saturday.

What to expect on a visit

Expect counter ordering, a handful of seats and a steady flow of visitors through the lane, which is car-free and easy to browse on foot. Leicester Square and Covent Garden Underground stations are both a short walk away, and Trafalgar Square is five minutes to the south. It ranks among the more versatile takeaways in Covent Garden, and for a purist's New York slice without the sandwiches, Carmy's on Monmouth Street is a ten-minute walk north through Seven Dials.
