About GAIL's Bakery Strand
GAIL's Bakery Strand is the GAIL's bakery on the Strand, on the southern edge of Covent Garden between the theatres and the river. It serves freshly baked sourdough, pastries and cakes alongside barista speciality coffee and iced drinks all day long, from an early start that suits commuters as well as visitors.
GAIL's takes its inspiration here from its neighbours at the Savoy Theatre: the shopfront frames the bakers at work in what the company calls a theatre kitchen, animating the street scene. Each GAIL's is designed to draw on local colours, materials and heritage, so the Strand shop shares the group's style while keeping its own setting. Bread, pastries, cakes, breakfasts and lunches are made by hand and according to the season.
A sourdough bakery on the Strand from breakfast to evening
The range covers sourdough loaves, pastries, cakes, breakfast and lunch dishes, with an in-season menu that changes through the year. The Pantry sells jams, spreads, crackers, biscuits and coffee to take home, The Fridge holds seasonal salads, butter and smoked salmon, and a gifting range runs from individual cakes to build-your-own boxes and gift cards. Sharing boxes can be ordered 48 hours ahead for collection or delivery.
What to expect on a visit
There is complimentary wifi and step-free access, same-day click and collect through the GAIL's app, delivery through Deliveroo and a loyalty scheme. The bakery opens from 6.15am to 8pm Monday to Saturday and from 7am to 7pm on Sundays. It is a dependable stop for a morning coffee and pastry or a lunchtime loaf among the bakeries around Covent Garden; for a French boulangerie nearby, try Orée on Wellington Street.

Excellent bakery in a very convenient Strand location. The pastries were fresh, well baked, and full of flavor, and the coffee was smooth and nicely prepared. The staff were friendly and efficient and the atmosphere felt warm and welcoming without being too noisy. A great spot for breakfast, a quick coffee, or a relaxed break while walking around central London. I would happily come back.
We’ve tried 2 kinds of savories both was perrrrfect especially the cheese stick ones :d The coffee is also okay. I mean much better than any other chain coffee shops. But we’ve tried much better coffee in London. So if you haven’t access to “better coffee” it’s definitely the best option and since Gail’s are everywhere you can get decent coffee during your trip. We couldn’t try pastries but they look amazing im sure they’re The stuff was seemed like divided into two as the happy and cheerful ones and grumpy ones :) But you don’t see them a lot so it’s okay Thank you team
A busy location during the holiday season, but the staff members were friendly and professional, and the pastries delicious! We stopped in for breakfast one morning - the ham and cheese croissants were so good that we went back the next morning. We also bought mince pies to enjoy in our hotel room.
