Jamie Oliver Catherine St

British nostalgia next to Drury Lane

About Jamie Oliver Catherine St

Jamie Oliver Catherine St is the chef's Covent Garden restaurant, standing beside the Theatre Royal Drury Lane on Catherine Street in one of the busiest corners of theatreland. It bills itself as a celebration of Britain's food culture, and brings Jamie Oliver's familiar, generous style of cooking to within a minute or two of the Drury Lane and Aldwych stages.

In the chef's own words, the menu is built around exciting and familiar dishes from his childhood and his years in the kitchen, a celebration of nostalgia, the seasons and the best of British produce. Expect seasonal British dishes alongside the Italian-influenced pasta and sharing plates he is known for, in a room that is relaxed and welcoming rather than formal.

Pre-theatre restaurant in Covent Garden

Timing is the point here. A fixed-price set menu runs from Monday to Saturday between midday and 5.30pm, pitched at lunch and pre-theatre diners, and the restaurant opens at noon every day, closing at 10.30pm from Sunday to Wednesday and 11pm from Thursday to Saturday. Packages for groups range from intimate meals to large events, with bookings of ten or more, private hire and vouchers handled by email.

What to expect on a visit

The appeal is warmth and generosity: food designed to be shared without ceremony, which makes it a natural choice for families, groups and anyone wanting an easy meal in the middle of theatreland. Booking is sensible around performance times, when the whole street fills up. It is one of the most accessible rooms among Covent Garden's fine dining restaurants, and for a grander pre-theatre option a few doors from the Lyceum there is Christopher's on Wellington Street. For a family restaurant near Drury Lane with a set menu before the curtain, it is hard to beat for convenience.

My family and I are big fans of Jamie Oliver and this visit to London was very special for us as we managed to get to his restaurant. We were greater by a very friendly Elvinas who welcomed us to the bar area, where Bekai looked after us. Both Elvinas and Bekai are extremely friendly, polite and professional! Bekai made us delicious drinks and we had a lovely chat. Will definitely be back!!

I was at a restaurant over Valentine's Day weekend. We started with a glass of champagne on the house and chose the pre-theatre menu and I have to say it- the food was absolutely delicious! Especially the super green pasta I had, it felt like a dish created for me as I’m obsessed with greens and a big fun of Cavolo Nero 🤩 It felt like a heaven in my mounts and made my buds sang! ☺️I had an amazing eveving and looking forward to visit next time hopefully soon .. You are the best Jamie ! Monika

The staff were not only incredibly kind, but also very helpful with getting my family set up in a comfortable spot. The restaurant itself has a gorgeous decor and a comforting atmosphere. Each dish, from starters to the main dishes, had a tantalizing presentation. I can only speak for the scallops, bread, and steak & chips in terms of taste: the scallops, served on a shell pooled in a delicious butter, was meaty and filled with so much savory flavor; the bread was simply your typical bread, but paired wonderfully with its own butter and that of the scallops'; lastly, the steak was tender, juicy, cooked to a perfectly medium rare and in a sauce that made each bite want you to savor your meal for as long as you can.
