About La Gelatiera
La Gelatiera is an artisan gelateria on New Row in Covent Garden, and it describes its product as award-winning gelato handcrafted daily in small batches from 100% natural ingredients. The name refers to the traditional gelato churn once used by artisans, a nod to the founders' commitment to hands-on methods.
Co-owner Antonio, described by the business as a maestro, combines science and creativity in production, so the emphasis is on technique and quality rather than a huge flavour count. Signatures include Honey, Rosemary and Orange Zest and an award-winning pistachio, with weekly specials such as a watermelon sorbet and a production lab at the East Village branch.
Artisan gelato in Covent Garden
The counter sells gelato and sorbet in cups and cones from baby to large, plus take-home tubs in 400ml and 800ml sizes. Warm options such as a Liège waffle with caramelised pearl sugar round out the menu. Gelato cakes, gift vouchers and wholesale and event services are also offered, so the shop works for a celebration as well as a passing treat.
What to expect on a visit
New Row is a narrow pedestrian street of small independent shops just off St Martin's Lane, a short walk from the piazza but with a calmer feel. Opening is from early afternoon on weekdays and from midday at weekends, running late into the evening. It is one of the most established ice cream shops in Covent Garden; for a matcha-led alternative try Matchamisu in the market, or see all dessert shops in Covent Garden.
