About Neuhaus
Neuhaus is a Belgian chocolatier in the Market Building at Covent Garden, and it calls itself the inventor of the Belgian praline. The brand traces its roots to 1857 and says all its chocolates are still made entirely in Belgium, one of the strongest heritage claims among the area's chocolate shops.
Neuhaus credits Jean Neuhaus Jr with creating the Belgian praline in 1912, and its master chocolatiers oversee recipes that the brand describes as 100% natural and palm-oil free, using sustainably sourced cacao from Ecuador and West Africa. Heritage and quality are central to the pitch, with the boxed ballotin as the classic format.
Belgian chocolate shop in Covent Garden
The counter specialises in pralines and truffles, sold loose and in ballotins and gift boxes, alongside bars and tablets, carrés, pistachio chocolates, vegan options and snacking items. The ballotins in particular make a straightforward gift, and staff can build a selection to order. Seasonal collections and limited editions come and go through the year, and the natural, palm-oil-free approach applies across the range rather than to a premium line only.
What to expect on a visit
The shop is a polished unit inside the covered market, well suited to picking up a boxed gift or a few pralines while exploring the piazza, and among the most visited shopping spots in the area. It opens seven days a week until 9pm Monday to Saturday and 8pm on Sundays. The Swiss counter at Läderach is a neighbour in the same building, and the full list of dessert shops in Covent Garden covers gelato, patisserie and more.
