Tequila Mockingbird

Tequila Mockingbird is a cocktail bar and entertainment venue on William IV Street, a stone's throw from Covent Garden, Charing Cross and Leicester Square stations. As the name suggests, tequila leads the drinks list, and the bar pitches itself as a place for weekly brunches, karaoke and a generous happy hour, whether that means unwinding after work, a date night or a full weekend out with friends.

The Covent Garden site is the West End outpost of a small London group, with sister bars at Monument, Putney, Wimbledon and St Albans. The room is dimly lit, with red walls and patterned wallpaper, a sunken booth, a large cinema lightbox, modern chandeliers and a photo booth, and private karaoke rooms hold up to six guests for those who want the singing kept among friends.

Saturdays are built around the Bottomless Hoedown Brunch, a 90-minute session with frozen margaritas, mocktails, prosecco and beer alongside pizza, plus line dancing, a horse-race game and bingo led by a drag host and a cowgirl burlesque performer, with sittings at 12.30pm and 3.30pm. Every second weekend a Musical Bingo Brunch takes over from 1pm to 3pm with West End and cabaret numbers, and a Throwback Bottomless Bingo Brunch rounds out the rotation. Pizza, pre-order and drinks menus are published online, and there is a zero-proof list for anyone skipping the tequila.

What to expect on a visit

The bar opens at 5pm daily, closing at 11.30pm Monday to Thursday, midnight on Friday and Saturday and 10.30pm on Sunday. Bookings are taken for tables, karaoke rooms, interactive darts and stag and hen parties, and gift cards are available. It is one of the livelier cocktail bars in Covent Garden, so it suits groups and celebrations rather than a quiet drink; for the latter, The Escapologist in Seven Dials offers a candlelit alternative a few minutes' walk north.
