Town

Town is the restaurant and bar from chef Stevie Parle on Drury Lane, in the heart of theatreland close to the Theatre Royal and a short walk from the Piazza. It brings together his passion for regenerative farming, British produce and joyful, ingredient-first cooking in a contemporary dining room designed for a night out without formality.

Parle's latest restaurant pairs the kitchen with Town Bar, where Kevin Armstrong, owner of Satan's Whiskers in Bethnal Green, a World's 50 Best bar, has created a concise menu of classics and originals, with aperitifs, smaller-serve cocktails and lower-alcohol options. The wine list blends old and new world styles, with pours by the glass, half bottle and carafe and a cellar of rare finds, and there are four beers on tap. Tom Parker Bowles called it an instant London classic and Giles Coren in The Times wrote that he would happily go in every day.

Modern British restaurant on Drury Lane

The a la carte changes with the seasons and there are quick lunch and quick dinner menus for anyone on the clock before a show, along with vegan options and a proper dessert list. The kitchen serves from noon to 3pm and 5pm to 9.30pm, while the bar keeps going until midnight. Two new private dining rooms seat 8 to 10 and 12 to 18, and a lounge and event space can host private dinners for 20 to 75 guests, having doubled the size of the restaurant.

What to expect on a visit

Town opens from midday to midnight, Monday to Saturday, and is closed on Sunday. It is child friendly and dog friendly, and bookings for up to ten can be made online, with larger groups handled by the private dining team. It is one of the more exciting recent arrivals among Covent Garden's fine dining restaurants, and for old-school contrast, Simpson's in the Strand is ten minutes away. For seasonal British cooking in theatreland, this is a strong choice.
