Cranbourn Street in Covent Garden

Cranbourn Street runs between Leicester Square and the area around Charing Cross Road, at the busy western edge of the Covent Garden district. It is a short but heavily used pedestrian and retail street, carrying large numbers of visitors moving to and from Leicester Square and its cinemas, restaurants and entertainment venues. Frontages along Cranbourn Street are given over to shops, cafes, fast food outlets and other businesses that serve the constant flow of people through this part of the West End. Its position at one of the principal approaches to Leicester Square gives it a high level of footfall throughout the day and into the evening, and it forms part of the connective network of streets tying Covent Garden to Soho and the wider entertainment quarter. The buildings are a mix of ages and styles typical of the central West End, with commercial premises at street level and offices or other uses above. Cranbourn Street has little of the quiet found in the courts to the east, functioning instead as a lively transit route between two of the busiest public spaces in central London.
