Parker Street in Covent Garden

Parker Street runs on the eastern side of Covent Garden, connecting Drury Lane with the streets towards Kingsway and Great Queen Street near the boundary with Holborn. It is a mainly commercial street of offices and upper-floor premises, with a plainer and quieter character than the shopping and theatre streets closer to the central market. The buildings along it are of moderate scale, and the street carries local pedestrian traffic and service vehicles rather than crowds of visitors. Its position links Drury Lane, long associated with theatre, to the larger buildings and offices around Kingsway, making it a useful connector for people moving through this part of the district. Foot traffic is made up chiefly of office workers and residents, giving Parker Street a steady, everyday rhythm rather than the visitor bustle of the retail streets. Parker Mews opens off it, one of the small enclosed backwaters that survive in this area. There are few notable landmarks along its length, and its interest lies in its role within the grid of streets on the eastern edge of Covent Garden. Holborn and Covent Garden Underground stations both lie within a short walk, placing the street on the quieter fringe between the theatres and the offices of Holborn.
