Burleigh Street Townhouse

A Victorian townhouse and gallery for hire off the Strand

About Burleigh Street Townhouse

Burleigh Street Townhouse is an art gallery and events space in a Victorian townhouse on Burleigh Street, just off the Strand in Covent Garden. The building was the original office of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's publishers, and it appears in several Sherlock Holmes stories, which gives a hire here a literary footnote that few London venues can match.

The townhouse opened as an events space in July 2019. It offers around 3,500 square feet split across six floors, with capacity for up to 250 people, and the combination of period architecture and strong natural light gives it the feel of a blank canvas. Alongside private hire, the gallery is home to a rotating collection of contemporary art and photography, so the walls are rarely bare between bookings.

Townhouse venue hire in Covent Garden

The building is available for private hire and suits pop-ups, brand launches, exhibitions, private events and photoshoots. Booking options run from dry hire through to full event packages, with flexibility in between, so organisers can take on as much or as little support as a given occasion needs. The spread of floors lets a client use the building as one connected event space or break it into smaller areas for different parts of a programme, with a reception on one level and a presentation or shoot on another.

What to expect on a visit

Burleigh Street is a short, quiet turning between the Strand and Tavistock Street, so guests step out of the traffic of the Strand and into a townhouse within a minute. Covent Garden and Charing Cross stations are both a few minutes on foot, and the theatre and shopping district is on the doorstep. Compare other event venues in Covent Garden, or look at the two-floor studio at Icetank on Grape Street if a smaller blank-canvas space is closer to the brief.
