Clos Maggiore

Provence and Tuscany under the blossom on King Street

About Clos Maggiore

Clos Maggiore is a French restaurant on King Street, a few steps from the Piazza, and is regularly named among the most romantic restaurants in the world, a description Architectural Digest has used for it. Its famous conservatory, with blossom-covered branches overhead and a roof that opens in summer, is the room people book months ahead for anniversaries, proposals and milestone dinners.

The kitchen draws on Provence and Tuscany, and the restaurant holds three AA Rosettes for 2026. The wine list is a serious undertaking in its own right, running to several thousand bins and recognised with a Wine Spectator Grand Award, with a sommelier team to guide the choice. Beyond the conservatory, the front rooms are panelled and lit by an open fire in winter, and a first-floor private dining room seats up to 18 for gatherings, celebrations and bespoke events, weddings included.

Romantic restaurant in Covent Garden with a conservatory

The blossom conservatory works as an alfresco terrace in warmer months and turns into a warm, candlelit room when the roof closes in winter, so it is a year-round booking rather than a summer one. Lunch and dinner run from seasonal menus with a pre-theatre option for those heading to the Royal Opera House or the West End, and the restaurant also produces its own Christmas panettone and gift vouchers for those wanting to give the experience.

What to expect on a visit

Lunch is served from noon with last orders at 2.15pm, and dinner from 5pm until 10.30pm Monday to Saturday and 10pm on Sunday; the terrace is open through the afternoon. Request the conservatory when you reserve, as the tables there are the first to go. King Street sits on the north-west side of the Piazza, minutes from Covent Garden station. Clos Maggiore is easily one of the most beautiful restaurants I’ve visited in London. The moment I walked in, I was impressed by the stunning blossom-covered ceiling and warm lighting, which created a romantic and elegant atmosphere. If possible, request a table near the fireplace in the conservatory area for the full experience. I chose the tasting menu (£89) with the Champagne pairing, and every course was beautifully presented and full of flavor. My favorite dish was the steak tartare, which was perfectly balanced and surprisingly approachable despite being served raw. The service was excellent throughout the evening. The staff and sommelier were attentive, knowledgeable, and provided great recommendations. Overall, a memorable dining experience with beautiful surroundings, excellent food, and outstanding service.

We chose Cloggs Maggiore to celebrate my birthday 🎂 , (Thank You to the restaurant for the very kind celebratory 🍫 🎂 gesture 💗) and it was a lovely choice for the atmosphere alone. The space is filled with beautiful floral touches, giving it a romantic, elegant, and slightly whimsical vibe — perfect for a special occasion. 🌟🌹 I particularly enjoyed the starters and cocktails. The cocktails were not only delicious but also beautifully presented — the glassware was so innovative and eye-catching that it made the experience even more fun and memorable. 🌹🌟 My main course was good but not outstanding. The fish, while nicely flavoured, wasn’t as tender as I expected and was slightly chewy, which may simply not have been to my personal preference.😅 Overall, if you’re looking for a romantic dining experience with a gorgeous setting and great cocktails, this is definitely the place. A lovely spot for celebrations, dates, or anyone who appreciates ambiance as much as food 🌷🍸

Five-star experience in every sense. From the moment we arrived, everything was flawless - the food, the presentation, the atmosphere, and above all, the service. The dishes were exceptional: beautifully presented, thoughtfully crafted, and absolutely delicious. A huge, heartfelt shout-out to Giuseppe, who looked after myself and my mum as we celebrated her birthday. His warmth, attentiveness, and genuine care turned a wonderful meal into something truly magical. He went above and beyond to make the occasion unforgettable, and it meant the world to us. This is hospitality at its absolute best — we’ll be talking about it for a long time to come and cannot wait to return - TOP TIER!
