About Palm Court Brasserie
Palm Court Brasserie is an intimate Parisian-style brasserie on King Street, overlooking the Piazza, designed to recreate a classical 1920s art nouveau dining room in the middle of Covent Garden. It serves a broad menu of classic French brasserie dishes, and it was named a winner of Tatler Magazine's Best Restaurants in Covent Garden and the West End.
The kitchen pairs good ingredients with traditional cooking methods, and the menu reads like a roll call of the genre: moules marinières, steak frites, duck confit, beef bourguignon and a classic vanilla crème brûlée. The brasserie is part of the London Brasseries group and is run by general manager Mauro Scomerza. Pavement tables give a view of the comings and goings on King Street in warmer months, while inside the room keeps the easy white-tablecloth feel of a Paris neighbourhood brasserie rather than anything formal.
French brasserie in Covent Garden for pre-theatre dining
The pre-theatre menu is the practical draw for anyone heading to the Royal Opera House or the Strand theatres: a starter and main for £21.95, or three courses for £25.95, served from noon until 6.30pm, with the kitchen used to working to curtain times. Steak Frites Tuesdays are a weekly fixture, and the brasserie hosts group dining and events, with seasonal programmes such as a summer terrace and a Christmas menu.
What to expect on a visit
Opening hours are simple: noon until 11pm, seven days a week, which makes it one of the more dependable addresses around the Piazza for a late lunch or a post-show supper. Covent Garden station is two minutes away and Leicester Square and Charing Cross are a short walk. Gift cards are sold online and it is wise to book on show nights. We made bookings for £15 Steak Frites, where is happening for the whole of January, the steak was cooked to perfection and the sauce went so well with everything.The other meal that we ordered was lunch and theatre 3 course meal, I liked everything that we ordered expect for the salmon starters which tasted like canned tuna and it was also very salty for our liking. The only negative part about the restaurant is that the tables are all packed close together.
I went back in January when they had the offer for steak and frites. The restaurant had dimmed lights and candles, so it had a nice ambience for groups and friends but also for dates. Service is quite attentive. We also ordered the bread and the brie. The brie was good but I thought the paste needed to be crispier, it was really soft. The steak was good, but I think the usual full price is a bit high for the amount and quality of meat you get. It's good but it didn't blow my mind. The fries were really good. Overall a really nice experience but that's taking into account the discounted price, which is extremely worth it!
Visited: February 2026. NO GROUND FLOOR TOILET! This is a lovely buzzy restaurant with a great atmosphere and good food. Perfect for a pre-theatre meal. Unfortunately I ran into a serious issue. There is no toilet on the street level, and the only toilet was down a large winding staircase. I had already left the following note on my booking: "Avoid steps if possible - bad knee." What would have been excellent customer service would have been to inform me in advance of the lack of a ground floor toilet, so I could make alternative arrangements or cancel my booking. The woman that I spoke to that night was extremely unhelpful, verging on plain rude. I thought they may at least have an arrangement with another local restaurant or venue (which I have encountered before). Very disappointing, and ruined what would have otherwise been a lovely evening!
